Installing an egress window?

I have a home that is on the market with a nice finished basement. I was considering installing one of these windows so it can be a secondary living space for someone. There is a small kitchen area and full bath in the basement as well. Would this be something worth installing to up the value and marketability?

Definitely yes! Installing an egress window will to the value of the home and increase your ROI. The egress window will not only allow natural sunlight to enter the dark basement, it will provide a safe escape route the occupant and their family during a fire or other home emergency.

I think you should. With an egress besement window you’ll get more natural light, plus an emergency escape. An egress window in a basement dramatically brightens an otherwise dark, dingy room, but it also has a more serious purpose. It’s large enough to offer a safe exit from the basement in the event of fire or other emergency. Adding an egress basement window is essential any time you remodel your basement to make a new bedroom, office or other living space.

I agree, it would be a nice addition. Potential buyers may be looking for things that are missing which will cost them extra, they'll probably try to haggle the price down as a result.

An egress window is an important safety feature and, as mentioned, brightens up the basement. Definitely get one installed.

Instead of doing a window, why not give it a full entrance? This way it can service as a rental place the owner of the home can make income on or use as guest housing or housing for an older child to rent.

@russ_rempel If it is doable, this is a fantastic idea. They are more expensive and require more work but are essentially the same thing, one can just be used as it's own entrance.
